Gathering prayer:

We bring our crosses as we gather here today, crosses of worry, fear, hope or love. Thank you God that you are always ready to welcome us, whatever crosses we are carrying. Amen

Welcome:

Today Jesus explains that being a follower will not always be easy, and that whoever puts themselves first will end up coming last.

Gospel:

This Sunday's Gospel reading is Matthew 16: 21-28 either read it yourself from your own Bible or use www.biblegateway.com . Then watch this video to learn a memory verse from today's reading  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJTr3dcDS0A

Song for today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8jvfdDtoqY I have decided to follow Jesus

Activity for now:

Using scraps of wood, nails, string and hammers, create some simple crosses. What does Jesus mean when he challenges us to 'take up our cross?' Is it just about carrying a piece of wood around? If not what does it mean?

You might like to create a cross out of other materials and give to a friend or family member.

Extra Activity:

Research some Christians (and other people) who have made sacrifices for the greater good e.g. Nelson Mandela, Greta Thunberg, Martin Luther King Jr. Read some articles about these people, and using information and pictures you find create a collage about them. Across the collage then write words or phrases such as 'Faith as tough as it is good"

Activity for this week:

Decide on one thing this week that you know distracts you from following Jesus and give it up. Ask for help if you need it.

Prayer for today:

It may be good, it may be tough, but God you are with us and love is enough.  Amen
