Epiphany Prayer For Your Home

Lord, bless, hallow and sanctify this house, that in it there may be charity, peace, humility, kindness, gentleness, health, obedience and thanksgiving to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and let your blessing come down on those who dwell in it.  Defend from harm all who pass through this door, and bless them in their going out and coming in; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

The initials of the Magi (Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar) are inscribed upon the doors with chalk.  (The initials, C, M, B can also be interpreted as the Latin phrase “Christus mansionem benedicat” which means “Christ bless this house”).

Gathering prayer:

Lord Jesus, we have come from different places, taken different routes and arrived with different needs, but we thank you that you meet and welcome us. Amen

Today we look at the wise men and what they did and how God guided them.

This Sunday's reading is Matthew 2 1-12 either read it yourself from your own Bible or use www.biblegateway.com .

Activity for now:

On one end of a lollystick write GO and on the other end write SEARCH. Decorate the rest of the stick, then glue it to another lollystick to make s signpost. Just as the wise men followed a star, we might follow a sign but sometimes it might not be as easy as that to find the direction God has for our lives. Keep the stick as a reminder to look for signs of God this week.

Extra Activity:

Think about something that you would like God's direction for e.g. making a decision or something in school. Walk from one end of the room to the other and as you turn around ask God to go with you this week and help you find direction.

We thank you, loving God, that when we search for you in the world, we find you in beauty, kindness and love. When we search for you at church, we find you in the Bible, activities and music. When we search for you in our lives, we find you in our hearts. Amen

Activity for this week:

Go out when it is dark and look at the stars, are some brighter than others?

Prayer for today:

For those who need a kind word: go and search. For those who need a helping hand: go and search. For those who need a friend: go and search. Fo those unsure on their journey: go and search. Amen

We have come to worship him.
