Children's Activities

Gathering prayer:

Thank you Jesus that we are your sheep; that you care for us - awake or asleep; that you know us as we grow day by day; and for watching over us in work, rest and play. Amen

Today we explore 'good shepherd' as a model for living in the community.

This Sunday's reading is John 10. 11-18 either read it yourself from your own Bible or use www.biblegateway.com .

Or you can watch a video of the story here "I Am" The Good Shepherd-John 10 | Sunday School Lesson & Bible Story for Kids | Sharefaithkids.com - YouTube

Song for today:

The Lord's my Shepherd - Stuart Townend [with lyrics] - YouTube

Talk Activity for now:

Sit and chat with someone at home:

What is a shepherd? What do they do? What is their job? Everyone in Jesus' day would have been very familiar with shepherds - it was a very common job.

What are the differences between the way the shepherd and the person paid to look after the sheep react to the wolf?

Craft Activity:

Using some card and craft equipment, make a rainbow card for people you care about in the community. These might be shopkeepers, neighbours or teachers.

Extra Activity:

In a group with your family, stand apart so that you can throw a ball to one another. As you throw the ball say someone's name and something about them that makes them a valued member of your community e.g. Zara always makes us laugh. Carry on to see how many valued members of your community you can name.

Activity for this week:

Make a caring card for someone you care about either in church, on your street, or perhaps in your family. Deliver it to them this week.

Prayer for today:

Good Shepherd, we have listened to your voice together. Keep us safe as we go out to serve you in the world. Amen
